Nowadays, environmental problems have become very apparent such as global warming, extreme changes in climate and El Nino. These problems are usually attributed to the use of fossil fuels for electricity generation. Fortunately, there are alternative sources available such as wind and Solar Energy. This article will give you a few tips on how to build a Do It Yourself Wind turbine for Your Own domestic use.

The main thing that you should focus more attention when constructing Your Own wind turbine is its blades. The blade design, placement as well as the materials used will determine the efficiency and usability of your wind turbine. The consideration is the length of the blades. This will be determined on how windy in your area. If it is windy, it is more appropriate to use short blade while if it is not that much windy, longer blades are preferable.
There are also two common designs for Do It Yourself wind turbine being used based on the blade placement along an axis. Horizontally placed blades were found to be best in terms of stability and rotor speed. On the other hand, vertically placed blades where more suitable in areas where wind direction varies. Furthermore it could be constructed without needing a tower and are therefore often used for residential.
Finally, one should also consider the material used in constructing the blades. Early versions have utilized mats, reeds and sail cloths. However, they are not durable enough especially against strong winds. It is preferable to use either wood or PVC pipe although it is more time consuming to construct a wind turbine blade when using the former.
