Nature Aids to Improve Solar Cells Electricity Output!
Ever Considered that Mother Nature helping you and me & thousands alike to have greater electricity output from your Solar Cells?
In fact this has became a reality as Scientists in Japan have found out that a material similar to the covering on moths eyes can help achieve this feat.
Moths are insects which are often seen inside your house, mostly squatting under a CFL or a Tube light. They can see equally well in light as well as in the dark. They achieve this because of the presence of an anti-reflective & water repellent coating on their eyes. It is said that this particular coating makes the moths eyes one of the least reflective surfaces in the natural world. This special coating also helps moths for protection against predators.
Japanese Researchers created a film which mimics the moth eye micro structure as a coating for solar cells. Having this coating on the Solar Cell will certainly reduce the reflection of the incident sunlight and thus will help in capturing more power from the sun.
The reflections taking place from the surface of solar cells is significant, ideally low reflective losses are desired for any Solar Cell.
The Scientists calculated the impact of such a coating over the solar cells. They got wonderful results! For solar cells used in places which receive direct solar radiation like the Sahara Desert, Mexico, California an annual improvement in the efficiency by 6% was observed, but whereas the areas which receive diffused solar radiation the solar cells showed a 5% improvement in efficiency.
