How to add multiple phone systems to one VoIP phone connection
If you have VoIP phone service or if you are thinking to get connection of VoIP phone service, but you are confused that how you can have many phones scattered around your house or work station when you have just one VoIP phone connection. The days when people have just one phone in their house are passing away, now everyone wants to move forward along with the trend. You will be pleased to hear that there are some options available; by applying them you can get several phones running by one connection.
There are four below mentioned possibilities, for adding multiple phones onto your one VoIP phone service, depending on the situation and requirements at the initial stage.
1. Using multiple jack extension connector is the simplest method. Plug this connector in to your VoIP service Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA), this will permit you to connect multiple phones on a single line. There is one limitation with this method that you can connect multiple phones at the same location of your VoIP Provider ATA device. This method is not very flexible if you want to distribute the phones throughout your office or home.
2. Another great option of distributing VoIP phone service is using Digital Cordless phone system. These days’ digital cordless phone systems are very common in homes with the available versions – 900MHz, 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz. So if you don’t have cordless phone at your home then you can easily get it at very reasonable prices because of the increase in competition, the prices go down. A base unit comes along with cordless phone systems that directly plugs into your VoIP service provider. Then Cordless (also referred as wireless) phone handsets can be placed anywhere in your home. In this way your VoIP digital connection is distributed all over your place and you can use it from anywhere in your place. One main thing I want to mention is that if you already have cordless phones then you don’t need to purchase it again especially for your VoIP phone system.
3. Using wireless phone jack is the variation of the cordless phone. Connect a base unit directly to the VoIP service provider ATA. Then you can connect additional phone systems to the wireless jacks after plug in the wireless jacks to the electrical outlets in any location where you need additional phones.
4. Many people use their existing phone wires and telephone extensions to distribute VoIP phone systems. Be careful as you cannot plug your VoIP ATA line output directly into the phone jack in your home. The reason behind this is that the traditional landline phone wires carries voltage to make the phone ‘ring’ when someone calls you. This voltage may damage your VoIP equipment. To avoid this, disconnect the landline phone wiring from their Network Interface Device (a black or gray box located on the outside of the house). Once these phone lines at your home has been disconnected, you can plug in VoIP service ATA provider directly into the existing phone extensions inside your home. Now you can distribute the VoIP phones to all the other extensions in your home that are wired to that phone extension. Even it is highly recommended that you should consult to an electrician or some person who is familiar with the internal telephone wiring that how it is to best connect to your VoIP phone service to the current phone wiring to take the advantage of the multiple extensions.
