Charging a 48V battery with a 12V charger
When charging a battery, it is important to use the proper charger. When the proper charger is not available for a battery, it becomes necessary to alter the Battery Charger circuitry to accommodate the higher battery voltage. One of the least complex ways to increase the voltage in a DC circuit is to convert the energy within the circuit to alternating current, stepping up or amplifying the AC signal, then transforming the AC signal to a different voltage than at first.

Attach the black inverter clamp to the black battery charger clamp. Attach the red inverter clamp to the red Battery Charger clamp

Pull apart the wire ends on the two-wire electric cord until there is approximately four inches of separation between the wire ends. Remove 1/2 inch of insulation from the wire ends.

Solder one of the electrical cord wire ends to one of the transformer primary terminals. Solder the remaining electrical cord wire end to the remaining transformer primary terminal. Plug the electrical cord into one of the Power Inverter outlets.
- Cut four pieces of wire, and strip 1/2 inch of insulation from each wire end. Solder one end of the first wire to one of the transformer secondary terminals. Solder one end of the second wire to the remaining transformer secondary terminal.
- Twist together the cathode lead (which is marked with a line across the diode casing) from the first diode together jointly with the anode lead from the second diode, and with the free end of the first wire. Solder this connection.
- Twist together the cathode lead from the third diode together jointly with the anode lead from the fourth diode, and with the free end of the second wire. Solder this connection.
- Slip a ring terminal over one end of the third wire, and solder the wire to the terminal. Place a ring terminal over one end of the fourth wire, and solder the terminal to the wire.
- Twist together the anode leads from the first and third diodes together with the free end of the third wire, and solder the connection. Twist together the cathode leads from the second and fourth diodes with the free end of the fourth wire, and solder the connection.
- Attach the ring terminal connected to the fourth wire to the positive terminal on the battery. Attach the ring terminal connected to the third wire to the negative terminal on the battery.
- Plug the 12V battery charger into the wall, and turn on the charger. Turn on the power inverter.
