My Water Bill Is Out Of This World, What Can I Do With My Pool To Conserve Water?
Let’s face it, with gas prices and everything else in today’s world sky rocketing through roof the last thing we need to deal with is an enormous water bill for your pool. Let me give you a few pointers on how to help conserve water around your pool and yard:

Repair any leaks in your pool. Even a small leak in either equipment or the structural shell can cause substantial water loss. Just 1 ½ inches a day in a 15×30 pool wastes approximately 150,000 gallons a year!

Buy and use a pool cover. A pool cover is the single, best water conservation device because it prevents evaporation. Covers reduce water loss due to normal evaporation.

Clean your pool filter. If possible, manually clean your filter. You’ll do a more thorough job and use much less water. The average backwash uses between 300 and 1000 gallons of water- without completely cleaning your filter.

Prohibit excessive diving, splashing and water fights. Boisterous play cause large amounts of water loss from “splash-out.”

Control pool filter cycles and chemical use. Use the least possible filtration time and test/treat chemicals frequently. Regular care will keep the pool cleaner and will avoid the need to drain and refill to correct conditions caused by neglect.

Reduce heater temperature. If you have a heater, reduce the pool heater temperature because warmer water evaporates more quickly.

Watch when filling. Keep an eye on the water level when filling the pool. Forgetting to shut off the water can cause costly waste. Automatic fill systems can help avoid overfill problems.

Sweep instead of hosing off. Sweep decks, patios, driveways and sidewalks instead of hosing off.
