9 Steps to Build Your Own Wind Turbine
There are nine easy steps to build Your Own wind turbine. These steps will take you through the process easily so you will never have to worry about spending the high dollar on a commercial unit again. Before starting the task, make sure you have an electrically inclined person on hand if you do not feel comfortable working with wiring and electrical components.
Step 1 – Choose the generator. You will need a generator to make electric with the wind.
Step 2 – Choose the blades. These can be hand crafted or purchased from a local or online store. Many wind turbine blades are made of PVC material.
Step 3 – Choose the electrical control system. The electrically inclined can build their own. If this is not an option, the unit will need to be purchased online.
Step 4 – Gather the materials. The above three pieces are the cornerstone of your wind turbine. There are other pieces you will need to complete the build however.
- Tools (drill, saw, screw driver, socket set)
- Long pipe for base
- Additional pipe of the same diameter.
- Brackets for mounting generator to blades and unit to the base.
- Plywood for stand.
- 2 X 4 lumber.
- Sheet metal with mounting hardware.
- Power storage battery.
Step 5 – Mount the blades to the generator. The brackets will be used to mount each of the blades to the motor.
Step 6 – Make the turbine mount. The mount is the piece that will hold the weight of the generator and blades.
Step 7 – Build the base. The base will stretch high into the sky with the wind turbine attached to the top.
Step 8 – Run the electrical wiring. Wiring is needed to move the electricity from the generator to the battery.
Step 9 – Assemble the pieces and start making power.
That is all there is to do when you build your own wind turbine.
